There are many reasons that homeowners consider re-roofing. One of the most common is the nuisance and cost of repeated repairs. Once repairing the roof begins to outweigh the cost of replacement, then it is time to re-roof.
For some roof projects, such as green roofing, for example, a highly reliable waterproofing layer is needed to provide protection at the base of the installation. This means that old or previously repaired coverings will not be suitable and will need to be upgraded.

This depends on the nature of the repair and the existing roof covering. Generally, it is more cost-effective and kinder to the environment in the long-term to replace tired or old, damaged roofing with a higher performing alternative.
It is recommended that all existing roof covering is stripped back to the deck or substrate before installing EPDM. Suitable for installation over a range of substrates, use water-based adhesives for timber and bonding adhesive for other materials, such as concrete.

Felt has been a traditional roofing material for decades and can still be the first thought for many UK homeowners. However, today’s modern single ply membranes are outperforming felt in almost every way.
EPDM has a life expectancy of over 50 years and is perfect for most home re-roofing projects to replace felt.
Yes, EPDM can be cut in situ using sharp, long-bladed EPDM scissors. Mark the EPDM with a chalk or crayon along the cutting line using a straight edge for the best results.
When trimming the overhang edges, such as when fitting a shed roof kit, ensure the line is straight and even, leaving sufficient (approx. 50mm) in place to seal when the battens are replaced.
For most projects, we can custom-cut a single sheet of EPDM that requires no seams. RubberCover can be cut in sheets up to 15m x 60m and this is one of the benefits of the system for ease of installation.
However, if EPDM does need to be joined, it is made straightforward with the use of EPDM seam tapes. There are two ways of joining EPDM using 6” tape and 3” tape with QuickPrime Plus primer. See our installation guides for a step-by-step tutorial.
