Our work in the community

PermaRoof UK supports Heart Link, a UK charity working at Glenfield Hospital to provide vital support and care to young patients and their families in the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre. For the next 12 months, we’ll be supporting the charity in a variety of ways and have started our fundraising with an initial donation of £2,000.

All the management teams and staff at PermaRoof UK are keen to get involved and a number of fundraising ideas have already been put forward, from sponsored walks to bake sales and coffee mornings. As a big part of our support, we’ll be donating all the funds we generate by recycling excess packaging in our new, especially purchased compactor to help us in our drive to become more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

PermaRoof UK has a special reason to be proud to be supporting Heart Link. This is a charity that is close to its heart following lifesaving heart surgery to River Mai Bishop, newly born granddaughter to PermaRoof UK’s managing director, Adrian Buttress.

Tiny River Mai was just eight days old in July 2019 when she underwent a 7 1/2 – hour operation to enlarge her heart at the East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.

The decision to select Heart Link as PermaRoof UK’s corporate charity was made easy by the dedicated care and support River Mai, Adrian and his family received during this time, revealing the true benefits of the valuable work that Heart Link do.

“We’re delighted to be able to support the work of Heart Link over the next 12 months. It’s important that we back local causes that make a real difference to the lives of others. I know all too well how vital Heart Link’s work is as the charity supported me and my family when my granddaughter was fighting for her life in Glenfield Hospital” – Adrian.

River Mai is recovering well after her ordeal following the lifesaving surgery to rebuild her heart. She continues to attend Glenfield Hospital every six weeks to monitor her progress and she will need another operation in early 2020.

The family are reassured to know that they, like many other families at Glenfield Hospital, can count on the amazing staff and Heart Link to give them the vital support and care they all need.
