A go-to app for our trade roofers

Trade EPDM installers from all over the UK are saving time and wastage by simplifying the quantifying stage of their projects. Since its launch, over five years ago, the Kit Builder App has grown in popularity, providing accurate materials lists for a wide range of roofing jobs.

Now, this free app is taking off for our DIY clients too. For projects that are outside the remit of our standard roof kits, the app can tailor the kit list, effectively building a roof kit from scratch.

How it works

Before you start, you’ll need to gather a few basic details about your flat roofing project:

• Flat roof size (length x width)
• Shape (e.g. For a ‘T’ shaped project, treat it as two flat roofs)
• Adjoining walls
• Extrusions – chimney pipes, flat roof skylights etc
• Trim detail requirements

Take accurate measurements of the project, because this is the most important set of details you’ll enter into the app. Measure twice to make sure.

Now, open the app and you’re ready to begin. The Kit Builder App can be accessed online via the website here. No sign ups are required and you’re under no obligation to buy any materials from PermaRoof once you’ve got your kit list.

Step one

During the first step, you’ll be asked to enter the length and width of your flat roof in the boxes provided. You can add these in metric (metres) or imperial (feet and inches).

In this section, you can also choose the grade of EPDM you require. Currently, there are three options:

• Standard 1.14mm EPDM
• Premium 1.52mm EPDM
• Fire Retardant Grade (to fulfil building control requirements if necessary)

There is an option to add some other project details, such as your name, email address and a quotation reference.

Step two

The second step allows the app to work out trims, corners and other edge accessories.

A range of options is available for each edge, including:

• Kerbs
• Gutters
• Flashing
• Joins to other types of roofing materials
• And more.

You can also choose the colour trim you need in this step. Trim is available typically in white, black or anthracite grey. The EPDM membrane is dark grey/black in colour as standard.

Step three

Step three deals with extrusions and is where you input details of any pipes coming through the roof project. These could include:

• External soil pipe
• Vent pipes
• Chimney flues
• Skylights
• And more.

Here you can also request optional extras, such as insulation, skylights or green roof projects.

Step four

The final step gives you a summary of your project and details the individual products required according to the details you have provided. This section of the app allows you to adjust these quantities if you wish.

At the bottom of the page, you can select whether you’d like to print, save the kit list, start over or send the list to us for an accurate quotation. You can calculate the estimated delivery charge too.

And that’s it. So simple and takes just minutes to complete once you have your project details.

Why is an accurate EPDM kit list important?

As EPDM membrane is designed to be installed typically in a single sheet for most domestic projects, it is important to make sure that your measurements are accurate. It is also critical to calculate accurate quantities for other install essentials, such as adhesive, edge trims and the right number of accessories.

The EPDM Kit Builder does all the calculations for you, taking the time-consuming ready reckoning out of the process altogether. By the time you have completed the four steps above within the app, you’ll have everything you need – in the right quantities – in your materials list. Then, you can send it for quotation, include it in your client estimate or project plan and look forward to completing your project with no waste or underbuying to worry about.
