By the time you notice you need gutter repairs, the damage has already begun and it’s time to act fast. In this scenario, many of us prefer to carry out a quick repair, rather than be faced with the headache and often significant cost of replacing gutters.
Gutters are the unsung heroes of your home’s exterior. They deflect, collect drain and quietly protect roofing, timbers and interiors. This means they’re often forgotten about – until leaks, rust or blockages start causing problems.
Replacing them can be disruptive, costly and unkind to the environment, as we’ll explore further in this article, but with ELEVATE’s RubberGutter EPDM, there’s a better way to approach the issues.
Available from PermaRoof, this self-adhesive membrane makes gutter refurbishment or repair a straightforward, eco friendly DIY job that really does give an old gutter a new service life with the potential of lasting for decades.
Why refurbish gutters rather than repair or replace?
Cost savings
Repeated repairs soon add up in terms of both time and cost. If you’ve been making spot repairs for a while, you may already be considering a new gutter system, but a refurb will be much more affordable.
Stripping out old gutters, disposing of waste, and fitting new sections can often double the cost of simple refurbishment. RubberGutter is a thinner, faster – and cheaper – solution.
Kinder to the environment
Full replacement of traditional old gutters sends heavy metal to landfill. With RubberGutter, you re use the existing guttering system, effectively lining it and giving it a renewed service life. No more gutter repairs!
Minimal disruption
When you decide to refurbish, there is no need to dismantle downpipes or wait for specialist fabrication. Install it on a dry day and you’re done, making it perfect for the job, whether you’re a DIYer or a pro.
What Is RubberGutter EPDM SA?
RubberGutter EPDM SA is a self adhesive EPDM rubber membrane, 1.3 mm thick, supplied in 75 cm × 20 m rolls (other widths are available). It has been developed by ELEVATE, specifically for refurbishing residential metal gutters.
The self-adhesive aspect is down to its innovative Secure Bond backing, which is factory applied and ensures uniform adhesion. The no glue, no torch, no specialist tools approach means you just set up the system, then peel and apply the membrane.
Key features:
Flexible and durable – RubberGutter resists UV, ozone, and extreme weather and because there are no plasticisers, this means there’s no cracking either.
Professional, neat finish – once installed, the smooth surface of the membrane enhances aesthetics, getting rid of all those spot gutter repairs!Chemically inert – the ingredients of the membrane make it safe for use, and it doesn’t leach any harmful chemicals into surface water. It can be used in conjunction with rainwater harvesting projects.
ISO certified quality – ELEVATE’s RubberGutter EPDM SA is made in Spain in an ISO 9001/14001 factory. Certification and manufacturer warranties are available.
Versatile for most gutter substrates – ideal for metal, concrete box gutters and timber.
Temperature resilient – RubberGutter bonds at temperatures as low as –7 °C, giving you greater flexibility in letting you work on the gutters for much of the year.
DIY friendly – because there are no specialist tools, skills or training required, this is the perfect system for confident homeowners.
When you’ve decided that you’ve had enough of gutter repairs and you’re going to take the refurb route, a RubberGutter system is what you need. Head on over to the online store and take a look at RubberGutter EPDM SA or give the team a call if you need help building a kit.

Installing RubberGutter
Step-by-Step DIY Gutter Refurbishment
Clean and preparation – this is a key part of the process
Remove debris, rust, flaking paint and any other loose dirt or debris. Wipe the surface clean and let it dry fully.
Cut the EPDM to size
Measure your gutter length, unroll the EPDM and trim to fit the gutter. Allow 50mm upstand at edges and outlets. There are accessories that can be used at drain outlet points – and we recommend you use them for the best, long-term results, especially with metal guttering systems.
Peel and stick
Remove the release liner and press the membrane into position. Use a silicone roller or penny roller for even adhesion, particularly at the edges and where there are outlets.
Seal the details
Form the membrane around corners and downpipe outlets. Use the compatible, recommended sealant for a watertight finish.
Inspection and testing
Once you’ve finished, inspect the entire length of the gutter closely. Look for bubbles or creases and make sure you smooth them out using a soft brush or silicone roller. Test the flow with a bucket of water and check that it flows correctly toward the downpipes.
