Make It a Leak-Free Silent Night (Not a Holey Night)
When you’re waiting for the jingling of sleighbells to gently disturb the silent night, nothing can dampen the Christmas spirit faster than the sound of drip…drip…drip instead.
As winter weather starts its soggy serenade, even the tiniest leak can turn into a full-blown festive fiasco. But never fear – PermaRoof is here – to turn Grinch-ridden drips into Hallelujah-worthy dry roofs with quick fixes, clever upgrades and seasonal weather know-how.

🎄 LEVEL 1 – The Elf-Sized ‘Quick Leak Spot Repair’
Perfect for annoying, isolated drips, emergency fixes and those ‘oh no! Just noticed this as the guests are arriving’ moments.
What you need
- Emergency Roof Repair liquid
- Hand brush and scraper (to prep the area)
- A paintbrush and a dash of festive determination
- Optional uplift in adversity: a mini sign reading ‘Santa, please stop here’
How to fix it
- Clean the area until it’s smooth, dry and free of debris. Use the scraper if needed and brush the area clear.
- Apply the Emergency Roof Repair liquid generously – elves aren’t known for skimping!
- Stand back and admire your instant Christmas miracle.
This simple fix buys you time and keeps interiors dry while you plan more maintenance in the New Year without the hefty call-out fee.
🎄 🎄 LEVEL 2 – The ‘Snow-Proof Seal & Secure’ Upgrade
For more persistent leaks or areas you already know need a little seasonal attention.
What you need
- An EPDM membrane patch (or the liquid repair compound)
- Seam or flashing tape
- Primer and spray bonding adhesive (better than water-based in cold weather)
- Optional: LED lights to decorate your ‘Santa-Friendly No-Drip Zone’
How to do it
- Prep the area, making sure it’s clean and dry, ready for a patch repair.
- Apply primer and the adhesive, following the instructions.
- Lay the membrane patch evenly across the problem area.
- Strengthen joints and seams with reinforcement tape.
- Roller everything down and leave to cure.
This gives vulnerable areas lasting protection and reduces the risk of leaks returning if winter storms come a-calling.
🎄 🎄 🎄 LEVEL 3 – The ‘Santa-Certified Total Leak Defence’
A premium-level fix for roofs that need a permanent solution, not just a touch of festive first aid.
What you need
- High-performance EPDM roofing kit
- You don’t need to worry about adhesive or trim, it’s all included
- Optional: The ‘full-on Blackpool effect’ – fairy lights galore, neon signs and an inflatable reindeer to celebrate your success
How to do it
- Ensure the OSB or plywood deck is clean, dry and smooth.
- Unroll the membrane and allow it to relax for 30–60 mins before fitting, keeping it square to the roof with a min. 150mm overhang all around.
- Fold back half of the membrane to expose the deck.
- Roll water based adhesive* evenly over the exposed deck, leaving 150mm of perimeter edge glue-free for bonding adhesive. *switch to bonding (contact) if temperatures fall below 5°C or it’s expected to dip below freezing in the 48 hours after fit.
- Carefully fold the membrane back into the glued section, sweeping with a soft broom from the centre out to remove air bubbles.
- Repeat for the second half of the roof.
- Fix perimeter edges, applying bonding adhesive (contact) or spray to both surfaces (membrane and substrate) around the perimeter and where the EPDM meets any vertical upstands.
- Allow it to tack off then press the membrane into place, using a silicon roller for good contact and a penny roller on any angle changes.
- Once bonded, trim any excess membrane, completing the job with trim and drip trim for a watertight, Santa-sturdy finish.
When done right, a full replacement weatherproofs your roof for life, not just for Christmas, thanks to high-quality EPDM membranes that deliver decades of proven performance.
