EPDM can be bonded to the outside of a twin-skinned flue pipe penetration, i.e. an insulated flue. This is because the outer skin remains relatively cool compared to the inner flue pipe. Most modern flue pipes are twin-skinned.

Generally nowadays, what we tend to find is that all flues coming through the roof tend to be twin-skinned i.e. they’re an insulated flue.
So, the actual outside surface of the flue is relatively cool compared to the inside. So, it is quite possible that we actually bond the material onto the outside of the flue pipe. It causes no problems.
