Oldest Firestone roof 48 years
History
Over a century of experience in rubber technology
For over 100 years, Firestone has been a trusted name in quality rubber products, backed by the strength of a multibillion-dollar company.
It all started in 1903 when Harvey S. Firestone founded the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company manufacturing tires for the first mass-produced automobiles in America. In the next decades Firestone expanded to a worldwide organization developing diversified rubber products. Today the Firestone brand is internationally known as a symbol of quality rubber products, innovation and leadership.
Experience extended to the roof
In 1980, Firestone Building Products enters the commercial roofing industry building upon Firestone’s success and experience in rubber polymer technology. The first Firestone RubberGard EPDM roof was installed in Wisconsin, USA in 1980 and still remains in service today.
Firestone opened its first RubberGard EPDM manufacturing plant in Prescott, Arkansas, in 1983. This plant has increased capacity over the years to become the largest EPDM manufacturing facility in the world. Firestone introduced UltraPly TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) in 1999. That same year, Firestone opened its first TPO manufacturing plant in Wellford, South Carolina.
Throughout the years, Firestone Building Products has grown from one to twenty-one plants and expanded into multiple product lines, including EPDM rubber membranes, thermoplastic membranes, modified bitumen and polyisocyanurate insulation.
Since Firestone Building Products entered the commercial roofing industry in 1980, the company has produced and installed over 1.000.000.000 sqm of single-ply membranes worldwide. This performance has made Firestone Building Products a leading manufacturer of EPDM and TPO membranes.
Success leads to new applications
Success in its commercial roofing business has led Firestone Building Products to expand into non-roofing applications for its high-quality waterproofing membranes, including lining of decorative ponds, irrigation reservoirs and canals and below grade waterproofing.
Commitment to international marketplace
In 1990, Firestone Building Products decided to expand into markets outside the USA with the establishment of a branch office in Brussels, Belgium, the company’s regional head office for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Today, Firestone Building Products has set up a wide network of distributors, contractors and sales representatives throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Now Permaroof UK LTD are hugely successful in the distribution of Firestone RubberCover aimed at the residential market. It is rapidly becoming the roofers choice for their installations.
