Why EPDM?

If you’re looking for a sustainable approach to waterproofing your shed and outbuildings, there is no better membrane than EPDM. With a service life expectancy of over 50 years, EPDM offers a longer term solution than traditional shed roof materials, such as felt, for instance.

Felt roofing is historically the go-to shed roof waterproofing material. However, felt and other types of bituminous roofing do not perform well over time, degrading through UV exposure and weathering. Felt often requires careful monitoring and maintenance – repairs to cracks or bubbles caused by hot weather are common and joins are notoriously difficult to seal properly.

EPDM membranes remain durable over the exceptional lifespan and are not affected by UV and weathering. This makes them harder to damage and the only maintenance required is often simply removing debris from the surface after a storm.

The roof requires some preparation in advance, but nothing more than stripping down and thoroughly cleaning the roof deck in readiness for a smooth membrane.
