PermaRoof Commercial Liquid Roof at Guys and St Thomas Hospital

PermaRoof Commercial supported CK Group Services with the installation of a green roof at Guys and St Thomas Hospital, having become involved in the project in 2021.

A major roof refurbishment that began in 2019, the project consisted of the repair and replacement of failing roofing across several hospital trust buildings at the London site.

One of the failing roofs at the well-known working hospital had begun to leak, posing a risk to patients and staff. As the roofing was surrounded by glass and therefore overlooked, the hospital requested an aesthetically pleasing green roof for this building.

Tackling the challenges of installation in a working hospital

The deliverability of a project of this size within a working hospital posed several challenges in both access for materials and installation on the 11-storey building.

PermaRoof Commercial were contacted by the main contractor in 2021 to support the project. Following comprehensive, on-site survey and assessment, we recommended the application of a P500 liquid roof, backed by installation warranty and ETA certification to give long term peace of mind.

We also suggested artificial grass for the green roof, selected for its ability to work as part of the system and to ensure that the structure of the roofing retained its integrity and was not subject to additional weight.

Sunny and the team worked closely with the contractor and the hospital to ensure that there was minimal disruption on site during the receipt of materials and installation.
