The Shetland Isles lie off the coast of Scotland, 50 miles north-east of Orkney and sit within the division of the North Sea and the Atlantic. Derivatives of the name have since appeared throughout history and was even used up until 1975 as Zetland, which gives the region its ZE postcode.
