Case Study: Supporting a Complex Swimming Pool Flat Roof Project

The brief:

A complex swimming pool project in Langrick required a major overhaul. The felt flat roof, skylights and cladding had reached the end of their life span and required a full renovation. The client approached a reputable local family business to complete these works: The Lincs Group.

This interesting project was over 100 sqm, and had some intricate details, requiring The Lincs Group to reach out to PermaGroup for some additional support.

Being a residential building that is rented out for the client’s customers to enjoy, this came with some added consideration wherein the client had to be continually informed, and the project operated in a way that was as minimally invasive as possible.

Additionally, a common problem with these projects is dealing with the unavoidable vapours from the swimming pool, requiring internal drainage to ensure excess moisture doesn’t prematurely damage the integrity of the roof. To avoid this issue, a clever solution had to be worked into the design.

The solution:

To ensure the client was comfortable with the ongoing work, they were kept in the loop constantly. Throughout the different stages of the project, allocated work areas and delivery windows were agreed upon so that no work disrupted or frustrated those using the facilities.

The products we specified included the full Elevate range of EPDM Roofing materials, which included the Elevate EPDM rubber, adhesives, flashings primers. This was purely for their excellent proven performance and longevity. Triple Glazed Flat Roof skylights and a woodgrain embossed Upvc Cladding was also used for their quality and low maintenance.

To fix the internal drainage issue, we proposed a clever idea which was designed into the project. This included creating a dedicated channel from where the internal drains currently were, to the outside of the roof, into a new hopper and downpipe. This circumvented the need to use 30+ year old internal pipes which would be difficult to access. The Lincs Group were impressed with this solution & integrated this into their project plan.

Throughout the project we were on hand to support with our technical expertise and know-how, visiting the site in person whenever necessary or even just beneficial.
